This is a shot of the HUGE pan of Apple Crisp I baked recently from my homegrown Haralred Apples. Quick and easy to make. I made a lot of thinmgs from the apples and still have a 5 gallon pail of apples yet and looking for other recipes. So when was the last time you baked with fresh apples be they homegrown or from a Farmers Market?

It's been way too long, for me. We have a really good farm a couple miles away that has delicious stuff and grows their own apples. I need to get there soon, maybe tomorrow!
My grandma made such great applesauce, apple butter and pies, cakes and cookies from apples!

I hope to buy the things I need for canning and making jellies etc this fall. I do it all without sterilizing the jars. I've just washed them by hand etc. So far no-ones been poisoned by my canned foods. YET! Hahaha! Going to drop hints about the canning products to my kids as a Christmas gift I'd like. HAHAHA!

When I was at my brother's house this past weekend, he canned tomato sauce and didn't sterilize the jars either. Crap, if you and him do it and neither of you got poisoned then I'm gonna skip that step as well when we can the applesauce.

I work with developmentally disabled adults and every Thursday is cooking group. For the month of September, they are making Apple Crisps. They love it. We start the first week with a full set of instructions and then every week, we try and let them make it with less help.
Today, they cored and sliced like pros and put on the oven without any assistance. They needed a little help with measuring since they are not really good with the 1/4 and 1/2 concept but they then mixed and put it in the pan. We are opening to find some different color measuring cups so that we can promote more independence.

Too long, if you ask me. I'm going to be picking apples from various trees next week. Have no clue what kind they are but gonna need em for my applesauce and now apple crisp and turnovers.

We get them from a neighbor and they are just divine. We like fried apples in cinniman and brown sugar. It's a favorit here and not just for dessert.

Are you trying to make me fat looking at that delicious apple crisp or just hungry? I don't remember when I've had fresh apples for baking, but they certainly did make better pies etc. than the ones in the grocery stores.
