Has chocolate had too much negative publicity?

I keep reading that cocoa is good for you because it has antioxidants. A few articles advise that small quantities of chocolate is of benefit, particularly dark chocolate and to look for bars that have a higher percentage of cocoa and less sugar and milk.
So after many years of dieters and health consious people avoiding choclate do we need to re-think? Have you say? Is getting the antioxidants in chocolate worth having some extra sugar and fat in your diet.
Are all the chocolate lovers out there rejoicing or are people taking it with a pinch of salt because of the ever-changing facts and opinions about food?
I like to make oats with cocoa powder in it - has anyone ever come across pure cocoa powder without sugar or milk added? Is it nice?
I tend to aviod chocolate because most are high in fat, sugar and calories - is there any hope for choclate then?

I live off chocolate. Well not literally but chocolate has a lot of great benifits. I eat it every day in small amounts. It gives me that extra little boost and makes me feel so much better. Some weeks I eat a lot of it at once but I've noticed when I do this its not the same effect as just say one small sqaure. Chocolate isnt bad for you at all in moderation as most things really.

That sounds like a good plan eating little bit at a time. Because I find that I don't yet it for ages that when I do I end up eating loads. I will try that.
I believe in the 80/20 rule, if you eat healthy 50% of the time then you can have things like chocolate 20% fof the time...lol :)

Hi Ros^^;;
I love chocolates since it has always been my comfort food.
I'm not worried about the extra sugar and fat as you say because i choose one's that are dark usually 50%-80%cacao. I like the bitter-sweet taste compared to the white chocolates that are too sweet and painful to the throat. There's nothing wrong with eating chocolates as long as not too much..after all some healthy food that are consumed more than our body needs is also not good..
I'm no way giving up my chocolate. I love Lotte's dream cacao or Lindt^^;;
