Kicking the Rascals Out!

When we hear this phrase we usually think of the "rascals" as the individual elected officials. There is nothing wrong with that definition, but I think we should take it to the root of the problem. The elected officials are just the pox on the flesh of the corrupted body. Their corruption is just a symptom of the disease. The virus causing the disease is the stranglehold the two major parties have over our government and elections. We can feel better at a superficial level by removing the pox, but to really heal and be cured, we have to irradicate the virus as we would polio. Next year we have a golden oportunity to begin the healing process. Vote against the incumbent. The incumbent lie is that no one can do their job as well as them. Do some critical thinking about that. What does it take to be an effective elected official? Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy proved that you don't have to be articulate. Countless elected officials prove you don't have to be honest or ethical. Charlie Rangel and Steve King (et al) prove you don't have to have a good memory. The House S&L scandal prove you don't have to be good with money and HR3200 prove you don't even have to be able to read. The incumbents will tell you that their opponent is inexperienced and can't do the job the way they'll do it, simply thank them for admitting their incompetence and vote for anyone else. Vote against the incumbent. Between the others, vote the independent. If there is no independent, vote the other major party, but hold your nose and bow your head while you do it.
