I discovered Michael Moore through the satirical show 'The Awful Truth' and then became familiar with his documentaties. I note that he has been labelled a political activist and was named as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world in 2005. Little is heard about him here in Greece so I really am curious as to the extent of his influence and how you view him.

I have actually never seen any of his movies. My husband really likes him because he makes fun of policy. I really haven't seen anything that he has made that makes me want to watch it.

Even though his flicks are based on facts! He presents them in a satirical fashion, but he does open people eyes to the things that go on behind the scenes! He presents his films in a format not like the main stream media and that in its self is what attracts a lot of people to his films and this helps him get his views to the main stream! That's why he is considered an influence to the populace!

Hi td, personally I love his satirical touch and the ironies unveiled. I never managed to get hold of the full length version of 'Sicko' but it certainly opened eyes to the Cuban medical system when something like that is operated on the basis of patient care rather than paperwork and politics.
Do you appreciate his style dt?

Never heard of him... It's just the last name that reminds me of Roger "The Saint" Moore...

Hi stvasile, he's most definitely worth looking up on youtube, for a short taster try 'The Awful Truth'. He is a satarist of the highest order.
Did you know that the young Roger 'saint' Moore used to model cardigans on ladies knitting pattern covers?

The only thing he's ever proven conclusively is that even a self avowed Socialist like himself is better off living a capitalist lifestyle. ;~D

He lives in a high class apartment in Manhattan and flies around in his private jet.
I wonder how he figures those fancy digs are "for the good of the workers".

Private jet indeed. Was he too heavy for a seat on commercial flights or does he just need it to get around for shooting.
Can't complain about a Manhattan apartment if he worked for his money which I gather he did, I don't believe he stole his wealth from the masses he stand up for but as I say I am the one to be enlightened.
Tell me ParaTed do you appreciate his satire?

the only thing he influences me to do is vomit. The term "documentaries" should be taken very loosely with Moore, more acurately MOCKumentaries. He really doesn't have a lot of general influence, the guy has no idea what he is talking about.

X, have you seen the commercials for his new one: Capitalism: A love story? You might enjoy it, from what I see he feels the same way you do about bail outs.

Apolgies xfactor, I only just saw your response when alerted to the one below. Well you don't seem to approve very much, I've never once felt the slightest desire to vomit when watching him and indeed find him most witty. It's a pity he doesn't have have a little influence as I recall his segment on Bush and the bin laden crew as quite enlightening, plus the few bits I managed to see regarding the cuban hospital system rang true with what I already knew. I'm not sure if the statistic is still up to date but Cuba did have the highest literacy percentage world wide. You would come across as more credible in your opinion of Mr Moore if you didn't generalise so much as there is no doubt he does know about some of the things he talks about, but as I'm not familiar with a lot of the American part I can't comment on the accuracy there. However if you are saying he has no idea about anything he talks about I would have to dismiss your opinion as biased as he had obviously well researched the findings about German companies use of slave labour during the water and agreed with my own findings there.

thea I have viewed some of the stuff he did on youtube and he seemed'tohit some of the things that are wrong with our medical
'care, but still I didnt have a lot of faith in him as he is'a'lay'
person not one in the medical profession. I think he is a tad 'outspoken but I guess thats just to get his ideas across.
I dont think he has much influence on anyone really, of course I'may well be wrong.

Hi Hatley, so I gather from your response that he wasn't someone you were too familiar with before looking him up on youtube. I really like his outspokeness as as an outsider looking in he seems to make some very valid points about things which are wrong with America and need addressing. He did do a wonderful piece on a German car manufactuar still operating from their head office in the states who had not paid sums out as promised to the people who had been forced to work for the same company as slave labour under the nazis. He also took on some big insurance company who were denying coverage to terminal patients. Perhaps his influence lies in the documentaries he makes as these are widely acclaimed.

Michael Moore makes interesting movies, and does make some very good points. But, many just consider him to be a left wing wacko. But, he does a good job of focusing on a subject, and he presents the information in a personal way. I do own, and enjoy some of his documentaries, but his influence here is very minimal.
