Yes, here in Minnesota, last night, I got down to 32 degrees and had frost on the ground. So this morning I had to pick my Honeycrisp Apples. I had picked nearly 100 last week and cooked them up and froze them for use later. Well today I picked 168 more. Ugghhh. So many apples to peel; core; cook; and store away for future use. Here's a photo of the pickings from this morning. So what's your weather like today? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It sure is getting nippy out, I just hate to see winter come. I know we had a danger of frost but I don't know if we got any. good luck with all the peeling, chopping etc. Do they freeze real good.

Frozen apple filling/sauce - Made Sept 22nd from my homegrown apples in Minnesota.
I freeze them in a large Ziploc Baggie. Enoughh for about 4 servings over waffles, pancakes, or ice cream etc. These were made last week and they usually last about 6 to 9 months this way. That's why I make smaller portions as opposed to huge ones. Easier to eat more this way. I don't feel guilty then. Check out the photo attatched. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi, what season are you in right now? You seem to have good apples harvested. It maybe good to sell them. That could be an additional income to you.

I have two apple trees that are both 4 years old now. One is a Haralred which is semi-tart, used mostly for baking. The other one is Honeycrisp, which the name describes it perfectlyt, sweet as honey and crisp too. I usually get near 400 apples total each year from the two trees. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Well, here inm Minnesota we have just 2 seasons. Winter, and road construction. Hahahaha! Thanks, these things are tasty. I ate two while picking them. No sprays so they can be eaten right from the tree. I just shine it up on my jeans or shirt then bite away. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It was very close to freezing two nights ago here, and just 25 miles north of me, it did freeze. Yesterday, it was pretty chilly out, today, the temperature is 70 degrees, but the wind is awful. Tomorrow, it is supposed to be only 40 degrees with up to 40 mile per hour winds. It isn't a wonder why there are so many people getting sick right now with the weather as goofy as it is.

Friday, Saturdsay, and Sunday we had very high winds all day and night. Gusts over 50 MPH and steady winds at 35MPH. I lost a few branches from my 55 year old Red Maple tree out front due to the winds. Still cleaning the mess today actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Are you here in Ohio? I am! Frost for us tomorrow, too, or at least a warning near here in Springfield. I've only been back here for 2 years, is this cooler than usual or about the norm? Seems to me October usually started out warmer than this!

So beautiful your apples look, have you ever considered selling those, as so many apples are too many for a complete family. But any way with this I remembered an apple a day keeps doctor away.

Now I heard - probably wrong because you know how it is living in a place like TEXAS where we seldom get freezing temps before November and have had 90's in February - that you had to have a freeze to ripen apples, I guess that's wrong too

I believe that is persimmons that you have to let the frost hit, before they are good to eat.

Don't you have a cold cellar? (Sometimes called a root cellar.) Apples will keep through the winter in a dark, cool environment. You don't need to process them all now.

Apple Filling/sauce - Homemade from my apples I grow in my garden/yard in Minnesota.
I have an unheated, unfinished basement which works well for my tomatoes at the end of the season. The basement is where I stored them last year as well. I just cooked up a HUGE batch. This pot is one of those very large spaghetti pots. So theres a lot of apples here as this photo shows.HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Right now it is 83 degrees, partly cloudy and very humid but no rain. It is miserable outside because of the humidity. It does sound like you have a lot of work ahead of you with the apples but will be so worth it all. Have fun. :)

autumn or what you would probably call, fall, is on its way. the leaves are falling and its darker in the evening, but we are still getting warm days, i have picked all my growing veg, like peas ,tomatoes , berry fruits , green peppers, etc.,but the summer annuals are still going strong, amazingly. i already have daffodil and tulip bulbs ready to go in, but until the annuals start dying back, i am reluctant to pull them up !!

Here in southwestern Ohio we have a frost warning through tomorrow (Thursday) morning. I tried and tried to not use the furnace but the dogs were shivering even though the thermostat said 67. It seems to me that it never got this cold this early before. I wonder when we'll have the first snow? Well, you certainly got your exercise, didn't you? Just think of all those yummy apple dishes you'll have this winter! They're great when you put them with kielbasa in a crock pot with onions and some applesauce, adding some bell pepper for the last 30 minutes--serve over rice and enjoy!

Hi GrandPaBob, your apples are beautiful. You do have a lot of work ahead of you but it is good prosperous work. Work from your successful gardening this year and from the production of your fruit trees. The weather here is nice. It is good sleeping weather. We are getting up in the 70's today. That is about 79, I saw on the weather channel. Nights and mornings are cool. I am going out tonight to bible study and I am going to dress accordingly to the coolness that I am expecting. I told my sister I think she should dress that way too. But I am not complaining I am loving it. Have a blessed day GrandPaBob.

Delicious looking apples. It is a lot of work to pick apples, and then prepare them, and process them, but you have to admit, it is well worth the effort. I love homemade things. We canned so many things this year, and the shelves still have many jars of food from last year.

The weather here is sunny and temperature is normal but this afternoon was in the eighties and windy for a while. Tomorrow though it is not going to get out of the 50's all day. What a big differents a day makes.

Wow, what a great harvest! It must be a lot of work but I think its great to be able to eat what you grow yourself and to be in touch with seasonal produce, so much of that awareness has been lost in pre packaged processed food now. Here in Massachusetts it is still quite warm, but we have had a couple of chillier, rainy days, so its on its way!

Holy Moly! I pray for cooler weather. It's still in the 70's here. I LOVE Honeycrisp. They are the totally best apples ever. It sounds like you are pretty busy, what do you do with all those apples?
