While trying to responding to some discussions, do you really read all the responses that have been made so far? As per the guideline, we are supposed to read them. I don't think it is possible one.Few days back I happened to see a discussion, started a month back has more than 230 responses.Still the members are responding to that discussion.(The discussion starter is leaving comments to all of the responses -Great work). If we want to respond to this discussion, is it possible to read all of the 230 responses? I will not read the previous responses if it is more than a page and I will start to respond as I like. How do you respond to the discussions?

Hi kumarpslv
How are you today? Good I hope..
What I try to do on my discussion that I started is to respond to them as they come in. I spent alot of time on mylot. By responding as they come in it comes me the chance to read the ones that have made a comment before I post back to them. I make my comments by what that person has said. I try not to dupilcate any of my responses. I really enjoy getting those response. Now I will admit that when I am the responding to others I am guilty of not reading what others has wrote. I feel that my words are mine and I don't dupulicate what others has wrote. But I did read on yours what others has wrote.LOL..Have a great day...

Reading the previous responses is just to avoid the repetitive opinions only. But in most of the cases, it may not be possible. Without reading the responses, if we state the same thing as like some others have mentioned, then ours may be considered as even plagiarized material. To avoid this,it is better to avoid such discussion from responding, if we don't have enough time to read all of them.If the responses is more than 200, then how to read all of them?.This itself will take about 2 hours.During this time, we can start so many discussions and respond to many discussions. Thanks for your response to this discussions.

Hi Kumarpslv...You are very welcome. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I never really looked at it that way. I will start to pay more attention to what I am writing to make sure that I don't get into trouble..LOL

Usually I go through all the responses which I receive for my discussion. I do this not because of the rules, but when somebody takes pain to respond to us, the basic courtsey demands that I read them and reply back. I usually thank them with a comment of my own. I have never received many responses. The maximum responses which I have received was about 60, and in most of my other discussion, I usually get about 10 to 20 responses depending upon the interest.

If I start some discussion, then I will read all of the responses that my discussion is receiving and also I will make some comments to all of them. But while responding to others discussion, it is not possible to read all of the responses if they are more in number. If we really want to stick on to the terms of the site, then it is better to skip the particular discussion from responding.I don't like to repeat the same thing again which is already in some other response. If I am about to respond, so far I used to read the first 10-15 responses only. Then I will respond. Now I have decided to avoid such discussion. Thanks for your participation.

I agree to your point Kumar, even I have the same feeling now days.Even though we see a very interesting topic, if I find a large number of responses, I do not respond to that kind of discussions. I just read the discussion if it is of interest to me.

i usually read some responses before i make my own response. but some discussions have too many responses. i'm too impatient to read them all. however i usually read all the responses to the discussions i start and rate them. if i find a discussion has many responses, i do not make my response to it because i don't think people will read my response which is behind so many other responses.

Yes.You are absolutely correct. No one will care and read our response except the discussion starter(that too in rare case), if our response if beyond 70-80 responses.Responding to such discussion may become of less use, except our earnings. If we really want to follow the guideline of mylot, we need to read all of the responded. But this itself will take hours together to read and it will affect our activity more. Instead of reading all those things, we can respond to so many other discussions. But I don't think as the members are reading the previous responses. Thanks for your response.

It seems you are little confused with the discussion. As per the guidelines, we are supposed to read all of the responses that the particular discussions has received, before responding. But this will not be possible for all as if some discussion has received 100s responses, then it will take much time to read.In general, no one will do that as for the same time we can do lot of works. It seems that it is better to avoid such discussion from responding. Thanks for your response.

I didn't know that it said we must read responses in the guidelines. Are you sure about that? I don't think it should be necessary in all cases. A lot of the time, discussions are opinion-based, so it really shouldn't matter whether or not we read the responses above us, because we all are entitled to our own opinions.

Yes. We are supposed to read the previous responses before responding to some discussion and this has been mentioned in the discussion guideline. You can refer this at the link http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq8.aspx#2, if you see the 'how to respond'. But this is not at all possible in the discussion where it has large number of responses. That's why I have now decided to not to respond to those discussion.I believe that we can not say anything different beyond 200 members. Thanks for your response.

I do read the previous responses if there aren't a lot of them before I post my own response but I agree with you that it is impossible to do with ones that have numerous responses. Besides, even if my response might be similar to another person's response I am sure that it is never EXACTLY the same as theirs. No two people are going to respond with the same wording, suggestion, idea, etc. even if they are answering the discussion from the same point of view as someone else. I hope I am explaining myself clearly enough here. I do remember reading in the guidelines that we should read other responses and look at other discussions that have been posted before we respond or start discussions. I assumed it is Mylot's suggestion to do this to prevent duplications or repetitions. Or maybe they suggest it so people can get ideas on other discussions and responses to start.

There were so many coincidences in the opinions, not in wordings or sentences, in various responses. In fact, I think no one will try to repeat the same thing, if they read others. But as we fail to read the previous responses, we happened to post the same thing again without knowing the fact that this content has already been posted by some other member. If we read all of them, we can avoid. As the time will not permit us to do this, it is better to avoid such discussion. Thanks for your response.

Since I only look at discussions that interest me, yes I read every post. Needless to say, I am a sloooow earner. But I have a lot of fun. If I see 230 responses, it had better be really exciting for me to take a look. I may not waste my time on that one.
If I start a discussion, I make a point to respond to each and every responder. I feel it is my duty as the host of the discussion.

You are correct. It is better to skit such discussion as no one can read all of the previous responses if they are like 40-50 even. Then how can we read the 200+ responses. There may be same opinions posted by various members. Beyond this, it is hardly possible to say a different solution or response to such discussions. That's why I have decided to not to respond to such discussion in future. But if I don't have anything to respond or to start discussion in my interests, I wish to read all those responses if possible. But the chances are less for that. Thanks for your response.
