This morning (12th October) I went out to my car at 6:20am to set off for work & found my windscreen covered in ice. Luckily, I was setting out a few minutes early to try & grab a parking space close to the building I work in so, I dashed back inside for the de-icer & scraper. When I turned the key in the ignition, the display helpfuly informed me "ICE ALERT"..... have you had to de-ice yours recently?
(No, I didn't get the space. I had to go to the 2nd floor of the multi-storey at the top of the road

Hi Wizzywig, that would be back in February 2004 I do believe, but I certainly had nothing on hand to actually de ice it with. I think I resorted to hot water, it was most unexpected. Maybe next time that is forecast I'll be more prepared, it's due again tradition has it in February 2039.
Does everyone start work so early there or do you have a long commute?

So, that gives you time to stock up on de-icer then
I work shifts. The early starts at 7.15am but I need to be there at least 10 mins earlier. It takes anywhere between 20mins and 45mins to get there depending on traffic but I wanted to get petrol and one of the good parking spaces. I'm on the late shift today which doesn't officially start till 1.40pm but it can take 20mins to find ANY staff parking space at that time of day & there will of course be more traffic.

Yes, but not running at the right times (the first bus would get me there too late for the early shift and the last bus leaves before i could get to the bus stop after a late shift) It would take two buses to get there as there is not direct bus route and the total journey would be about 90mins
It took me about 30 mins each way today & I managed to get a parking space that was lower than the roof in the multi-storey. They dont put the lights on, on the top floor because it shines into local residents windows & they complained... doesn't matter that we are walking up there, often alone, between 9.30 & 10pm...

Ice? Snow? Freeze?
Aren't us warm weather Californians annoying? I'm thinking that last time I had to de-ice a car was a March, 2000 business trip to Salt Lake City!
