Raffia mats

I used to make raffia mats with my family when I was a lot younger and, not surprisingly, I can't remember at all how we did them. I would like to start making them again but have no clue where to start. I asked my mum how we made them and she told me but I am sceptical as to what she said and think that she has got muddled up with some other craft making! Anyway, does one else have a clue? What else do you make out of raffia?

Hmmmm. I use raffia to tie my tomato plants to bamboo poles. Does that help?

Sorry. But if you make a basket you can always have soup in the basket. That's not right either. Is it steak in the basket - or perhaps chicken!

I don't even know what raffia IS! Sounds like a hybrid of rattan and mafia! :-)

I have never heard of them....I use Raffia in other crafts but can't imagine making mats out of them! Must be a big job! I bet you can find the instructions some place...try cut out and keep .com or mixed media.com they might have some instructions!

Hi ya jillhill Well when I says mats I mean like table mats, place mats that sor of thing rather than rug sort of size. I will check out the other sites you have mentioned though too! Thanks
