I was reading in a crochet forum they found cotton yarn on a cone for a deal. I"m thinking cotton yarn? I know some in the lil skeins are for things like dish scrubbers ect. Is that the same stuff on the cone? Such a silly question I know.....

I did not even know there were cone yarns. I usually buy the skein yarn.

My school has a lot of yarns on a cone in the art closet and I have discovered some I really like . The only problem is that I can't tell what the fiber content of the yarns is so if you buy yarn on a cone make sure you know what kind it is. Cotton can be used for anything and cones don't have to be balled before you start to work with them.

You know I was going to say that I don't think I've ever heard of yarn on a cone, but now I can't say that for sure. I'm not sure if it's different or not but I guess the best bet is to feel the yarn or call your craft store or ask when your up there one day. Interesting topic, wish I had an answer for you.

You can get all kinds of yarn on a cone. Most "cone" yarns are sold by the pound. In stores like Walmart and such is usually Sugar n Cream Brand and this is the worsted weight cotton that is used for dishclothes, potholders, and scrubbers. You can go to either Sugar n Cream or Lily brands website and get a much better selection available in both 1 lb. cones or the smaller skiens. If you go to a website like "Webs" if you look in their weaving section you can find several types of yarn both cotton and other types of fibers such as acrylic sold by the pound on cones in several different weights. They will usually give the yardage per pound. Naturally the thicker yarn will have less yardage than the thinner ones. And NO it's not a silly question, if you don't ask, you don't learn.
