We usually refer to it as ourself, "me" in the first person. But if we dig deeper, what does "I" means to you? - "I" is the Roman numeral of the number 1. - "I" the 8th letter of the English alphabet. - "I" is a vowel. Can you elaborate more?

The soul in our body is eternal but our body isn`t since it is perishible like everything in the world. When we are born we come along with some baggage from our past life which becomes a part of our karma. We take on an identity which is given a name by our parents and as long as we are alive this name gives us an individuality which is our very own and it is this individuality is known as the " I ".However this I is a small part of the bigger I or the Super Soul of which the entire creation is a part. The goal of the human being is to achieve realisation of this Super soul or Self and when it is attained, then that person is said to have achieved Self-Realisation.This means that he loses his individuality and sees himself to be one with creation and everything within it.After attaining it he gets liberated from the endless cycle of births and deaths and incarnates of his free will inorder to serve mankind, if he so wishes.
