Have you heard about the proposed 28th Amendment?

Now, I searched and found nothing on it. Then I went through the first few pages of political discussions. If I'm duplicating someone's discussions I apologize but I certainly took a lot of trouble not to! So, here is the proposal for the 28th amendment: "Congress shall not make or pass any law that applies to any citizen of the United States that does not apply equally to all members of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives; further, Congress shall not make or pass any law that applies to any United States Senator or United States Representative that does not apply equally to all citizens of the United States. All existing laws and regulations that do not meet these criteria shall be declared null and void." That would mean that any health care rules they pass, they are bound by. They must pay their taxes or suffer the same penalty I would if I cheated. Etc., etc. Now, this normally wouldn't have a chance in hell of passing but if we really demanded it I'll bet we could get it shoved through. Start by voting the jerks out in 2010! What do you think of such a law? Isn't it only fair that the laws that apply to the people should apply to their representatives? Can anyone see a disadvantage to this proposal?

Would not strict interpertation of the 14th Amendment take care of this - equal protection for all?

I'm sure it would, I just re-read it. How many of our representatives read the Constitution, though? It's very obvious to me that they either have never read it or they are purposely ignoring it because they don't seem to know the proper role of government.

They feel they are the ruling class and can do what they want.

This is a great idea and sorely needed. I know of 2 areas where our congress critters have exempted themselves in the past. Most people would be shocked. Many will call me a liar. Here's the 2 things Congress use to ignore. 1) Affirmative action (Yes, our politicians use to actually say out loud that their work was to important to hamper with the burden of affirmative action.) 2) Minimum wage (Not that long ago, congress paid some workers less than the minimum wage on the ground the law did not require them to pay it!) Hooray for the 28th amendment. Equality under the law is a good thing.
