I nearly laughed myself into fits when I heard this on the World News Now show last night.
Are you perplexed what to give as a gift for Christmas? Want something truly unique and memorable, something that will make you the talk of the town? It's jewelry, specifically a necklace and it's sold at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois. Now you might ask yourself, what makes this necklace so special--(coughs)--while it is made with other types of beads, the main feature are beads made from sterilized reindeer droppings from the zoos very own reindeer. These necklaces sell for $15.00at their gift shop, but wait folks...you don't have to go to the zoo's gift shop...you can order it from their website for $20.00. There's a link from this article that will take you to the zoo's website. You can also get ornaments made from reindeer dung as well.
So, uh, folks, would you ever consider getting a necklace that features reindeer dung? (Makes mental note to self: collect my cat's poo and make beads out of them--might become a millionaire this way)

LOL, it is hard to believe that they will actually sell it but oh well there is a place online where they sell dog poop. You can have it all wrapped up and send it to anyone world wide. It comes in different sizes and different textures.
When we lived in Maine we heard about a place that was selling deer poop for $100 for 20 pound bags. Just for fertilizer. I told hubby I could make a killing selling it. just go out in the woods and collect it.
Come to think of it we could all collect some of that and sell it as reindeer poop its about the same thing. Same size and all. Maybe I can make some rabbit poop necklaces and sell thse, since I have a lot of wild rabbits around lately.

I did a discussion not too long ago about the world's most expensive coffee that goes for $40 a cup--uh, guess what that is made from? People in some Asian countries collect the dung from the civet cat that have coffee bean seeds in them.
LOL--wonder what the fascination and deal is that people are interested in poop in general?? Yes I can see for fertilizer

I am begining to wonder if the fascination for poop comes from watching to much of the dirty jobs tv show. I have to say that man has more poop jobs then I care to count. We will be fine just as long as no one starts using human poop for jewelry. That wont be good.

I have to say that's one sh*tty gift! LOL
Who in their right mind would give someone a gift like that for Christmas (or any other time of year for that matter)?
Unless it's to one of their enemies, of course!
No, I would not consider getting something like this for myself. It's still poo and poo should not be made into jewelry. I may not know what's in when it comes to today's fashion, but I know better than to wear something like deer dung, or any other dung for that matter, because that's just not fashionable...it's nasty! LOL
Happy mylotting!

In some cultures or frames of mind, poo is considered lucky..LOL. I remember my mother and grandmother telling me that my great-grandmother always carried around a cow chip....that is when she went to play bingo...she always won

Well, I wondered if that was what you meant from the beginning. Cute. I will have to check it out further. What an interesting idea. I wonder who thought it up and actually started making them. That mental note could be a good one to keep in mind. You just never do know what people will buy and what they won't.

Yes it does make you wonder who thought up this idea, and more, why people would actually buy these necklaces

Okay...Sorry for the late response, I was just gathering cat poo because my daughter had her ears pierced not long ago and I figured the poo would make nice earrings...I must say I am wondering what will they think of next and why would anybody wear reindeer poo on their person; it is certainly a novel idea, I wonder how expensive these ‘gems’ are...

Maybe the two of us should start a cat poo jewelry business...the necklaces go for $15.00 at the shop and $20.00 by mail order..think we could charge that much for our "jewelry"?

I guess people will be willing to buy anything that is offbeat and different and jewelry made out of reindeer dung certainly fits.

OMG that is so crazy. I would never give someone a gift like that. Humm well maybe if I didn't like them, so I could have a good little chuckle.

EWWWWW! How the heck do you sterilize reindeer poo? And who the heck would want to smell that smell all day?!?! I swear don't the zoo's make any money with their outragious fee's? Man if we didn't buy the zoo pass it would cost us $100 every time we would go! I'm sure they sell the animal leavings for compost, don't they?

Yes you would think a more constructive way to make money would be to sell the poop for fertilizer instead of making jewelry out of it

I'd say they were smart! =)
Things these days, they always backlash. People don't want rare, precious gems or wood to make jewelry with because supplies are running low. They invent plastic beads and now everyone's concerned with the environment.
Reindeer dung? Now that.. is interesting.
