Pogonophobia

The fear of beards. That's right, there is such a thing. Now, I don't mean to cause offence by this post, and I am NOT being rude! But, even as a kid, I was always a bit wary of people with facial hair, and everyone including myself thought it was something I would grow out of as a lot of little kids don't like people with beards. But to this day I am still wary of people with beards and I know that it is for NO GOOD REASON what so ever! I don't beak out into a cold sweat and scream or anything, but I am still nervous of that person, and for some reason I can't seem to see past their beard. I have tried, and I don't know why but people with beards and/or moustaches just make me uncomfortable! I'm not just being ignorant, I genuinely can't help it!!! Do you like beards/moustaches/general facial hair? Are you a pogonophile? Do you have a beard/moustache/facial hair? Or do you just not like them? Or are you like me and for some reason they make you nervous?

LOL...you'd be a lot of fun at the International Beard and Mustache competition, wouldn't you? No, I'm not really mean and I wouldn't make you go. Maybe it has something to do with how you 'read' faces. For those who focus on the eyes as the mirror of the soul, it probably doesn't matter if some one had a beard. I can see beards being pretty upsetting for those who 'read' the entire face because so much of it is covered. For them, beards are like masks. Have you ever though about it that way? What would you think if you saw some one using their beard as a comb-over?

I think I might keel over and die! I focus on the eyes, but with a beardy, all I can see is the beard.(apart from one exception!) Hmm, I might actually be impressed if they'd grown a beard that long

Wouldn't it depend on how it's tied at the top? I suppose that if it's tight enough that at least they wouldn't snore...lol.

I like a small, well groomed goatee or a slight scruff on some men but I am not a fan of moustaches or full on beards. They just look dirty, like they would smell bad. I'm not afraid of them but they definitely aren't my thing!

I didn't know there is such a thing as fear of beards. It's hard to have any kind of fear/phobia. Others, those who are narrow-minded, don't understand that it's possible to have fears that seems to be weird. Me, what I have is a fear of heights. But, it's not that serious because what I don't like is being on a high ground and seeing the bottom, or being on the edge while on a tall building. That fear started when I fell from a fence while sitting on it. But I really want to overcome that fear that's why I try to be on high levels whenever I can. They said that frequent exposure to what you fear will eventually make you overcome it.

Im not scared of beards but I don't much like them because it hides their beautiful face and if someone kisses my cheek with stubbles, it makes me have a rash :S

I wouldn't say I have a PHOBIA for them, but I don't really like facial hair of any kind.. on most people. Unless its' just a small, scruffy beard or something. I don't like the big unibomber beard, though, as.. it creeps me out.

What's a unibomber beard?

I don't have a phobia in facial hairs but I don't like facial hairs because for me the guy look dirty and they look like a terrorist heheheehhee! I prefer clean face they look more decent and it is good to touch. I think women like clean face because some women have sensitive skin.

I didn't know people were actually afraid of beards, but I guess you can be afraid of anything. Adrian Monk, who I know is not a real person, is afraid of milk. My own fear is of closed in spaces. That seems a little more logical. I can't figure out why someone would be afraid of beards. I wonder if they were taught as a child that all bearded men were dangerous. I wonder if all their partners must shave off their facial hair in order to continue dating them. Or, perhaps, if they really like the person it can be a kind of aversion therapy.
