Elephant in the Room!

Do we all ignore the elephants? Does it sometimes take a stranger or outsider to point out what should be obvious, the things we know are there but choose to ignore. Do we slowly accumulate habits and behaviours until they grow into elephants and because they took so long to grow do we act like they are supposed to be? Have you ever had someone point out an elephant in the room to you and then you've gone "oh, yeah, pass me the blunderbus!"

That is so true. You get so used to the "elephants" that you tend to not see them after a point in time. I guess it is a part of human nature. And I'm sure there are many scientific reasons to prove why that happens. The question is how easy (or difficult) is it when someone actually does point out the elephant! I guess that's a test of our personality as well. Reading your question/discussion also reminded me of the Biblical reference to the story of the person who could not see the plank in his own eye and yet was keen on removing the speck of dirt in his neighbor's eye! (But I guess that should be part of another discussion!)
