Hi shibham, Zip code is also called as PIN code which means Postal Index Number. Zip code helps to find an area or it is a postal address. Whenever someone post you a letter to your address, it is very easy to find your address by postal department if the letter contains your zip code. Zip code is a 6 digit code and in India there are 8 PIN regions. The first two digits of the PIN code together indicates the sub region or one of the postal circles. The first three digits of the PIN code together indicates a sorting / revenue district. The last three digits of the PIN code refer to the delivery Post Office. You can get ZIP code or PIN code by just look around your area. See posters and sign boards you will easily see the 6 digit number. Have a great day.

Ok I was in detailed without noticing your actual problem. Anyway, in my opinion ZIP code and PIN code have no difference. I also passed through such situation earlier. Some site may not recognize your PIN or ZIP code because their website is built to recognize certain country's ZIP code only. See many country has different types of ZIP codes with both alphabets and numbers. It may be possible that their website's database won't recognize India's PIN code. If you would contact their admin and asked about the actual reason, then definitely you will get proper solution. Have a nice day.

There are several online directories in which you can look up your Postal Index Number. Here is just one I found. In the box, select "Search by City/District/State" as appropriate, type in your state, city or district and it will show your postal code: http://www.medindia.net/pincode/pincode.asp

As all others have told,it is just the pincodenumber of your town/village/city.You can easily get it from your mailing address. If you have any doubts, just access the post office of your area and they will give you the right number of your province.

If you had a zip code you would know it. I am guessing by now you have had an explanation of where zip codes come from.
