This is old news but what the Democratic leadership in Washington has done is the same thing but makes the Gov. look like a piker in what he wanted. We are only hearing part of the Deals made and will only find out the ones that are in the bill and not the contributions made to campaigns or family members hired. Is this the new open government we were promised, a closed door meeting with the President and Democrats to work out the details, then a late night vote.

Come on, Bob, I'm not defending the same old practices of deal making but you make it sound like the GOP is and has always been completely pure and blameless! Sure, it was a late night vote but it was hardly a secret and it was broadcast on all the major news networks. Is "the government we were promised" include a Republican party that refuses to do anything other than say "NO!" to everything, openly stating their goal is to kill any attempt at health care reform? This issue should have been solved months ago and it could have been if the GOP had been willing to work with the majority in Congress and the White House. The fact is, they just can't stand being out of power. Annie

The Republican Party has proposed over 100 amendments to the bill - all rejected by the Democrats saying NO. The Republicans proposed portability of insurance where you would own the policy and could take it where ever you moved. People would receive the tax credit instead of the employer. They proposed allowing people to buy health insurance across state lines to cut costs. This would also eliminate the state mandates of what should be covered and leave that up to the individual. They proposed increasing Health Savings Account which would allow you to have control over your Health Care Costs and decisions. They proposed Tort Reform. Not one of these bill was allowed to pass out of Democratic controlled committees. These issues were not addressed by the Democrats. The media never covered these one of bills because it did not fit their agenda. They are ignoring the fact that 60+% of the people are satisfied with their current insurance. Several different groups have estimated that insurance premiums will increase between 45 to 140 percent because of the provision that insurance co will have to insure all people when ever they decide to buy insurance. If I am a healthy young person why should I pay for insurance knowing that if I get sick or injured I can buy insurance at that time and the Insurance Co has to take me and cover me including preexisting conditions. If I am a 25 year old why should I pay $7,000 or more a year for insurance when I can pay a small fine and save the money. Then at age 30 I find that I have cancer and need expensive treatment so I buy insurance and they pay the $100,000+ medical bill. I have$35,000 in the bank minus the small yearly fine and everyone else is paying higher rates to cover me. Finally can you tell me the Republicans that were at the White House over the weekend to discuss the 600 page managers amendment? Finally if this is such a great thing why did Senator Reid and the President have to bribe the Democrat Senators with MY TAX MONEY. IT IS NOT THEIR MOENY TO DO WHAT THEY WISH.

Please tell me specifically what bills or amendments the Republicans have ever proposed that would insure all or most of the millions without insurance and that would stop the greedy, immoral practices of the insurance companies? Myself, I HATE that the Senate bill seems to me a huge payout to the insurance companies when, in my opinion, we should simply go to a single-payer system, but hopefully what comes out of conference will save some of the 45,000 lives that will be lost in the next year due to being uninsured. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what you've written I get the impression that you don't think there should be any ban on insurers dropping or denying people due to preexisting conditions. Annie
