It is a Catatrosphic Warning today and Bushfires have started!

Our state has a bushfire warning in place. The highest level is catastrophic. That means if a bushfire starts in these conditions, firefighters will not be able to save lives or homes or businesses. They will probably not be able to put it out until a cool change comes. People will definitely die. They must evacuate the night before. Most of the state is on catasrophic today. The city, where I live near the hills is on severe warning. On TV last night they listed the evaucation points. I have been monitoring the country fire service site. At the moment there are a number of grass and stubble fires. But a very large bushfire has started near Pt. Lincoln (not near me). It is listed as extremely dangerous and out of control. This is in a catastrophic area. Im very concerned for the people there. Last time there was a bushfire in that area two years ago, nine people died.

California is as bad as our State for bushfires. We are the worst two regions in the world.

Be very careful. That seems so dangerous. I am glad they are being cautious, but it won't take long for things to get out of control. Be safe and don't take chances.

Eveything is fine where I live. But the terrible bushfire in another city burnt a lot of homes.

That is very scary, Jenny. I hope you and your country people stay safe and that the cool change comes soon. Is it that way every year? I know you have talked about fires for the last two years. It is a matter for concern.

yes, I probably go on about bushfires a lot I know, but I was brought up in a firefighters family, and never really got it out of my system. There is a cool change due tonight, but preceding that there will be electrical storms and that is the big worry, as they start fires.

That sounds horrible, at least it's not near you. It sometimes seems like every area has some kind of weather problem. Around here it floods a lot and there are areas that have earthquakes and hurricanes and some areas like yours have fires. Can the firefighters control it better if it cools off a little? It sounds like this must happen a lot. Good luck and stay safe!!

If it is a wildfire, and the firefighters cant control it, they often build a firebreak. This is where they find a piece of land, in the direction the fire is heading to, and completely clear it of trees and scrub.

I can imagine how concerned you would be. I can't imagine knowing at any moment you might have to leave your home. Hopefully it won't get nearer to you. They get a lot of wild fires in California also. People have to evacuate and it is always on the news. It doesn't really hit home until it is you or someone you know. It must be horrible!!

It was fine here as no fire started. But another city had a bad bushfire which destroyed many homes and it is not out yet. California and my state are the worlds worst bushfire areas.
