Don't Profile, Must Be Politically Correct

It seems every time there is terrorist activity outside of the middle east, we're told not to profile. Does it bother anyone else that we are the ones who are put on a tight leash? Does it also seem that political correctness is going to get us killed?

It is important to be careful, but unessecary to judge prooflessly.

I strongly feel political correctness is what allowed the fort Hood killings to happen. As for the Christmas terrorist attack the fact the guy had no luggage and only bought a one way ticket and with his country of origin I don't see why he wasn't checked out. Should we strip search all foreigners, well of course not... but there were just too many factors in this case that all pointed to suspicious behavior. I do think that to an extent, employees are worried that they would be labeled for racial profiling if their suspicions proved false.

If I had to choose between being labeled a racist or knowing that I allowed a bomber on the plane and got everyone killed, I'd take the racist label. But I don't try to be politically correct. It has been a curse rather than a blessing.

Bingo, bestboy! That's what happens when your policy is to be reactionary, instead of taking control of the problem in an effective way. We should have already been profiling and so should the rest of the world. If you're buying a one way ticket to anywhere...with cash...and no luggage...and you fit the profile...you're getting a full body search before you're allowed on a plane with a couple hundred people. If you don't like it, don't fly. The same attitude should hold true on land. If you appear to be suspicious, it's your job to prove that you're not up to anything...it shouldn't be our job to bend over backwards so that someone's feelings aren't hurt when organized groups are trying to kill us.

Terrorist activity seems to be picking up. I hope those in power will consider lives rather than feelings.

I think that profiling has it's place in our country, especially when it comes to people who are not citizens of the country. In many other countries they treat foreigners entirely different than citizens, and their record of terrorist attacks are better than ours (especially when it comes to air travel).

I've been in many other countries and have received the profiling treatment, so I know what you're talking about. I don't doubt the other passengers appreciated it, and it didn't hurt me a bit.
