I saw the advertisement about the Census hiring for 2010, and the pay seems reasonable. I am thinking about applying. I don't care for going to folks home, but I figure if I can obtain weekend work it might be nice. It would be nice if anyone have experience working with the Census can give me their input.

I worked for them one year. My job was to verify that every 4th house matched the basic description on the forms. They paid me for two days training, including expenses, paid my mileage for driving to the addresses, and paid me a pretty good hourly wage. After I filled out my paperwork each night, I had to take it and drop in in a FedEx box with prepaid mailers they gave me. They even gave me government issue pencils and scrap paper to use! It wasn't a bad gig at all.
