Do any of you have a spouse who is an invalid? My husband was diagnosed with lou gehrig's several years ago and now is basically in a wheel chair and on oxygen too. It seems he hermitizes himself in our den that dark and he even closes the shades and curtains. Any body out there had a similiar problem?

I know you had a difficult time and I'm sorry for you. as I've said, the darkness worries me and he doesn't get out of that room in the day time very often. he was feeling some better today and we went gambling for a couple of hours and he did ok. It's just wearing, ya know?

I've not been there.. seems like the darkness is for comfort/feeling 'safe'? ..prayers and all the best..

The darkness serves two purposes as best I can tell. The feeling safe is one and the other is for the migraines he has too. Thanks for your prayers and God bless you too

My husband only survived a year with ALS. He was always kind of a recluse anyway. It was so hard for him to go places after he became ill and he felt like he was a bother or obligation. Remembering this about your husband, that he is ill, is another reason not to let that aunt take advantage of you. He needs to enjoy the outings he gets and goes on. Do not make him put up with her.

We talked to a dr about his lou gehrig's a week or so ago and he thinks the disease has stopped it's progression. I didn't think lou gehrig's did that-- but we have also seen a neurologist and she wants him off some of his meds and wants him in the hospital for four days to get off them and he won't do it. he also has migrains and likes the room dark for that and I am thinking too he is trying get off one of the meds all by himself and he's making life miserable for me by hybernating away like that. that aunt won't bother him in his den. She stays in the dining room with me. I think she has picked up on how he feels about her LOL But, we did go gamble some tonight, just me and him and it helps him to get out. thanks for your words and I do know you have dealt with what I am going thru now. Bless you and thanks for the response.

It is a horrible disease and not pretty. I try to take care of myself and get out when I can. But it's friends on mylot that help me thru a lot of it cuz I can't always just pick up and go like I'd like to. He does go with me some but we are limited to how far he walk or even ride in his wheel chair. But, the Lord has his plans for him I'm sure of that.
