Should children be assigned chores to do?

I think it's good to have the children around the house help out.It will teach them how to clean ,and how to keep their own home when they move out on their own.It shows the child responsibility.I assigned my daughter chores around here to do.They should be taught to pitch in.What do you think,should children be assigned chores to do around the house?

My 19 month old does chores and she knows they have got to be done before she can play with her toys. She also knows that in order to play with a new toy she needs to put the toy she has been playing with away.
She knows what needs to be done and in which order and she is very good. I also think they need to learn from a young age otherwise when you introduce it when they are older they wont want to do it. I dont have her doing alot she does some dusting and a little tidying up and she uses her pretend hoover.
