Have you ever built your own computer?

I did not get into computers fully until I was about sixteen years of age, and I mainly used it to play video games, draw, and write stories. Back at that time, I knew very little about computers including the internet. In fact, I didn't even bother with the internet having no interest until I was 21. From there, my skills in computers escalated and I learned not only about web sites and networking, but also about the inner components and programming languages used.
At the same time I've always had this desire to someday build my own computer. I knew someone who has built his own computers, and because it was customized, his computer could do a lot more that others couldn't.All of his supplies came from Tiger Direct, and it amazed me how he was able to put the motherboard, the central processing unit (which is the brain of the computer), the random access memory, the hard disks, and graphics and sounds card all together in the appropriate positions inside the tower to make it work. Of course there was also the Windows Vista program he installed to make it all work.
Has anyone ever built their own computers? If so, how did you do it, and where did you get the parts? How much was the cost of it How long did it take you and were you pleased with the results?
I've always thought to myself someday I will build my own computer. But until then, I'd like to hear your experiences.

My own one? Nope.. But I have build a few in my life.. it might have something to do with the fact that my whole career is basically aimed at computers.. (IT)..
heh.. I wanna build my own computer since.. well, since a long time but I simply don't have the time or money right now to do that. As soon as I get the money I will make sure to build one myself so that I can finally enjoy all the great games I have been missing all those years.. hehe.. :)

Money is an issue as I've heard the parts for computers can be more expensive than buying a computer out right. I am in the field of BSIT, which revolves around Web development and Networking, but I've known for a while, the components that go into a computer's build. It would definitely be an interesting hobby if we could afford to build custom made PCs.

Thank you for answering, and yes I agree. Building your own unit enables you to know exactly what is going into your unit, and furthermore, where it came from. You don't get that knowledge with already built computers.
