Does your first name mean anything in your language? Here in India most of then names have meanings and I believe that is so in most Asian & Latin countries and also in Africa, Greece, Israel and Arabic countries. And many of them have come down from old holy scriptures or mythological stories. Most of the names commonly found in western countries seem to have come down from some saint or some great person, or from some rare gem or even the old ancient names of the Gods - I may be wrong, correct me if so; I am talking of names like Francis, Jane, Sapphire, Abraham, Robert, Xavier, Ruby, etc., etc.I would like to know meaning of such names- just curious. Oh yes, by the way my name Uday means " Rising" or "Rise"

Barbara means 'stranger'. My last name derives from a word for 'light' or 'bright', so I'm the bright stranger, apparently. I'm not sure my parents were too concerned about the literal meanings, however. I shared my first name with several of my mother's friends and mentors, while I share Lee with one of my mother's favorite nephews. Do you share a first name with others in your family or among your parents' friends?
