Do you have a kitchen cabinet full of kitchen gadgets which you hardly ever use? Also, do you have a favorite gadget that you feel you would be lost without? I a raw food maker and I just love all the gadgets for preparing fresh vegetables. My latest gadget is a cherry picker. It literally plucks the pit out of a cherry effortlessly. Now what's your?

I love to cook and it would be difficult to say which of my gadgets I love best. But I do have a pair of gadgets that I have never used. I´m proud to say that they were given to me: I would NEVER have bought them. I don´t know why I don´t throw them away: they take some space in a kitchen that is not very big. Bit I can´t throw away kings: they "might" be useful someday. On on the absurd gadgets is one where you put a hardboiled egg inside and it will cut it in 6 wedges. No comments. I do it quicker with a knife and the knive is easier to wash later on. The other does something like that to an avocado. That is worse still. At least eggs are about the same size. But avocados vary a lot. As for preparing raw salads, I love that thingy where you put the lettuce leaves, turn it and they´ll come out dry. Green salads are so much better when the dressing goes over a dry veggie. Take care!

I also have at least 3 lemon juicers. I even have an electric juicer but I use that more for oranges, except when I´m doing seviche (a dish where you cook raw fish in lemon). The one I like best is a manual one where you put one half of a lemon in the thingy and put the two parts together (as you would with a garlic crusher, but it´s bigger).

Oh, I have the useless egg slicer. You are right, it is a royal pain to clean. I never heard of or seen an avocado slicer. It is amazing what new miracle gadgets they can think up. By the way, what kind of lemon juicer do you use. I have 3 kinds.

The newest thing I bought was a replacement for one that was damaged , it was a hand held blender, this one brought a whole lot of attachments and it is handy. I prefer it to a standing blender for making shakes, soups and things and the mini chopper is quite handy. I am not much of a gadgets person, with the exception of a few specialized tools, the vegetable peeler is the thing I probably use the most, the peeler I have is old though as I like it's shape and way it handles. I have tried replacing it with other newer prettier types but none of them seem to work as well or feel right. Never tried a cherry picker, I have wondered if they work, going to try one now.

Is you new blender one of those immersion blenders. That's one gadget on my wish list. If you make cherry pie from scratch the cherry picker is invaluable.

Yes, it is an immersion blender. I can't imagine not having one, they are very handy and practical in my view, but if you do get one may I suggest getting one with a detachable metal base, my previous one was really old so it's base could not be removed making it tricky to clean due to it's electric top, and metal because my cousin had a plastic based one and somehow melted it and had to buy a new one.
