Okay so did you see the show? It was spectacular! Truly. I was impressed overall, despite the couple mishaps to the opening of the 2010 Olympic winter games here in British Columbia Canada.
I have never seen BC Place looking so good! The acoustics are fabulous as well.
For those of you who caught the show, what part of it was most memorable?
There were several highlights, indeed but what I enjoyed the very most about the Opening Ceremony was the performance by K.D. Lang, singing Leonard Cohen's song hallelujah. She did a terrific job!
Unfortunately I tuned in a bit late so I missed the anthem. Did anyone else catch it?
What did you think? I heard that it was less than best.
At the end of what was a error free show, the failure of the fifth cauldron to open really did not hinder the ambiance of the show, however, I bet there were some scattering to try and make a quick fix though. It was a bit embarrassing. After all, Canada is on the World Stage.
I felt for Gretzky, riding in the back of the truck to Coal harbor to light the outdoor cauldron, while it was pouring out!
I was especially happy to see Ann Murray as part of the Olympic flag bearers. She is looking awesome too.
What really impressed me, touching my heart, deep was that of the Winter Olympics honoring the native Canadians as I felt that it really meant a lot to them and having them perform was a fun part of the show and a great opening to the games on Canadian soil.
For those of you who caught the opening ceremonies, what part or parts of the show were most memorable for you?

I asked this exact same thing in a post last night.
Hmm... great minds think alike?

I thought it was neat about all the people who were in the ceremony but the thing that is going to stick in my memory the most is the like 5 minutes where everyone was standing there because of the mechanism not working. I am glad canada gets it they had a great show but man thats just something I am not going to forget. All the athletes standing there smiling and their eyes saying "WTH is going on?!?!?!?." Its just not going to go away.
other than that I like canada. Everything else besides that was nice and very symbolic for canadians and I thought it was overall made with the best intentions.

I agree tap it was a terrific show overall, very thought out and extremely well done despite the blooper but yes, that one stand out! Cr*p happens.
Apparently those standing with the torches, waiting to light the cauldron, had ear pieces and could hear the technical people asking them to stand by, explaining the situation. What they were worried about was that their torches would go out as they stay lit for apparently only 15mins at a time.
Thank you for your response.

No, I didn't watch the opening ceremonies, but I did catch some of it on recaps from the news. Like Wayne Gretzky lighting the torch. He is the one who did it, right? He would seem like the best choice to me. Although I didn't watch the opening ceremonies, I have to say I never watch the opening ceremonies. Whether it be the winter or summer Olympics, I never watch them. Not even when the summer Olympics were in Atlanta years ago.

Hi AmbiePam, yes Wayne Gretzky lit the torch at Coal harbor. It was an obvious choice for sure. After all he is "The Great".
Here is a link for the opening ceremonies and links to clips of videos of the highlights (scroll down) just in case there is anything that you would like to check in on ;)

Hi, yes I saw the show and I was impressed, I think that was the grand opening of the Olympics that i saw before. I'm impressed that highlighted the ancestors, still very intelligent made, the effects were very interesting , and music, lights, everything was well synchronized, combined, however the colors were almost unreal.
Bravo for the Canadians, however, from them I expected something different, I liked the winter season more as created.

I managed to catch some of the opening ceremony, and I must admit, I was nothing short of amazed
It was spectacular, Canada should be proud of the incredible show-case they put on to mark the beginning of the winter games
