Do you count everything?

I just read (and will respond) to a discussion where they said they read everything. I do that too. But I count literally everything! If there are buttons on something I count them. If there are items on a shelf I count them. If there are cds or dvds lined up.. I count them. IF there are no items nearby I will count doors and windows in a room. I count cords, books on a shelf, literally everything! does any one else have this annoying obsession?

Typical symptoms for an Obsessive Compulsive Order with the urge to count. See your doctor he will probably tell you do to sign up for an exposure therapy. I have a disorder in the same spectrum as OCD, I have a panic disorder and exposure therapy helped me so much. A friend of mine also has OCD and she also revived after the exposure therapy.

Exposure to what therapy? I'd probably just as soon count stuff. I'm a mathematician. It can't hurt to see numerical patterns in everything. It's only occasionally that it gets very annoying. Most of the time I just count! Sometimes I tell myself "you've already counted the stripes on the rug! There are 13 tan ones and 17 dark brown!"

Exposure to not counting. Or do you feel perfectly fine if you do not count for a long while?

Hi macdingolinger, One book, Two books.... lol reminds me of The count on Sesame Street, I love that guy. I can't say I have an obsession or have consciously counted objects. But I have on occasion counted things while waiting at doctors appointments or at the hospital just to pass the time and alleviate the boredom of waiting. A few weeks ago I remember counting the decorative holes in the back of the seats at the hospital a number of times for want of something better to do.

Yeah, this is more similar to the count on Sesame Street for sure! It's almost that bad, really! Only I can count higher than the count! lol!

Not that one, no, but I have others... Maggiepie "Our Constitution was made only for a moral & religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." ~~President John Adams

I hate numbers and Math is my greatest weakness, but I realize that I love to count (which i think it happened spontaneously and without me realizing it), for example, when I'm cooking, I'll count the numbers of nuggets that I put into the pan, I count the numbers of jackets that I have everytime I'm arranging my clothes in the wardrobe, and it's getting weirder when I started counting hangers that we have, while waiting for the laundry machine! I don't now if it's a disease, but yeah, if it's an OCD, it would be interesting..hahaha~ I don't really bother about it but after reading your discussion, yeah, I'm sort of..aware?

Yeah! That's it, you've at least got a mild form of the counting disease!Mine is a little more severe. I will know within a matter of minutes how many tiles are on the walls, or on the floor in a room; how many openings etc!
