Have you ever cooked with beer?

Have you ever cooked with beer? I haven't so far, but wonder if the flavor of the beer chanegs after it has had contact with the heat. I do not even like the taste of beer, so am hoping the flavor of the cooked beer in a recipe or dish would change to something that tastes better than its original taste in the bottle. What does adding beer to a dish do for that particular dish? Does that make the dish an alcoholic dish, or does the heat evaporate or cook most of the alcohol content away?
