Making a budget and sticking to it is the first step to taking control and improving the way you handle your Personal Finance. It isn't easy. I'll be the first one to say that. And it took me a long time to take it seriously.
I think it would help if you split your expenses into 2 categories, Fixed and Variable. Fixed are those that doesn't change like rent, while Variable are for those expenses that fluctuates every month, like electricity. After doing this, some people recommend dividing your income in order to meet these expenses. Something like 50% Fixed, 30% Variable, 10% Savings,10% Retirement. But this is really up to you.
Then once you've allocated everything, anything that's left over would be your disposable money for the month, meaning something that you can spend for whatever you want.
I know it sounds tedious, but there are a lot of tools online that you can use to help you with this. LearnVest.com has a great budget calculator that you can play around with. Or just use plain Excel.

I make a monthly budget for everything that I will spend money on. My fiance jokes that I plan way to much. For me without a budget I would be in trouble. With having to make sure that rent, cars, daycare, groceries, gas, etc. is paid for I need to make sure that I dont overspend. That would just set off a horrible domino effect. So for me it is very easy to stick to. It wasnt easy at first but after that first returned check I got hip real quick!

I usually plan my monthly expenses but it is hard for me to stick with it. It is not as easy as how it looks but I have to say I want to really stick to it. I am hoping to do it once I get a job this coming weeks.

Making monthly budget is a very good thing to do if you want to be financially organized. But unfortunately, I can't do that
because my expenses vary each month. However that's what I am planning to do starting this month. I just don't want to spend money more than I earn
