Who is Divine Providence?

My daughter and her co-applicants for a school org were memorizing the constitution of the org in their tiny nook in the college. They were up for a formal interview by the members and the questions, they were told, entail the nitty-gritty details of the articles in the magna carta. As they were seriously and quietly reviewing the constitution, a co-applicant arrived and asked my daughter Who is Divine Providence? A line in the manuscript goes with the aid of the Divine Providence, do hereby promulgate... Taken aback by the question, my daughter managed to answer God. Then the co-applicant asked Really? My daughter said Yes but her co-applicant proceeded to check the dictionary. She was then formally introduced to Divine Providence. And all the applicants gave her a standing laughter for the unexpected entertainment they had. She really needed Divine Providence, didn't she?

Well, the co applicant is showing some motivation, by looking up what she doubted, but I believe she could have even gotten the answer by the context in which it was stated. It sounds like everyone else knew except the questioner.
