What do you mean by happiness? According to me, its a prolonged state of joy. The thing that you like, upon doing it you feel joyful and the continuous state of being in joy is happiness. What do you think about it?

I tend to agree with you, that when we feel joyous, or when we get what we want, then we feel happy. But friend, I feel happiness is not continuous state of being joyous. I believe that happiness or sorrow are momentous, not permanent. Actually i feel happiness is a stage of mind. When we achieve somethings we value a lot, say e.g getting 90% marks in exam, we feel joyous, happy, but that remains for a shorter time, may be a day or two, then we return to normalcy, not feeling too excited about our achievement. similarly our sorrow also affects our mind for shorter period not permanently.

I agree with you! That is the point I am trying to explain to you. Momentary happiness is called joy/joyous state, and continuous joy is happiness. Of course it is temporary, but time difference between joy and happiness is more! Thanx! ~cheerio~

I think what you are saying as a answer for your own question is not wrong. Happiness is in fact a prolonged state of happiness or joy as you say it. But this is different for each person. Happiness is also a subjective term so it is really difficult to exactly say what happiness is. But this is a state of joy that is for sure.

Ya you are correct there too! As it is a relative term, the exact bookish definition does not exist. The surge or the feeling expresses better, no doubt its a prolonged state of being happy. And yet as it is a relative term having a significant relationship of its meaning with the term, being sad or sorrow etc, where the feel of its meaning is derived. Thanx for your precious time! ~cheerio~

Happiness for me is doing things that i like much and I am peacefully contented while enjoying myself with what I'm doing. The feelings of contentment and laughter. I feel happy all the time when I achieve something I like. This is a feelings that so hard to express in writing but we feel an emotion.

Achievement of success, is short lived and I think it is considered as a joyful moment or joyful time. Then what's the difference between joy and happiness? Thanx! ~cheerio~

for me happiness a a feeling from within that makes you smile even if theres nothing to smile with. if you feel so happy you cant really fake it as you tend to express it. it makes you feel so young and so light and that everything around you is like full of colors that you will appreciate even if its already bad or ugly but since your happy you just think them as fine.

I like your meaning of happiness, "a prolonged state of joy". When we say prolong, something cause it, and something prolonged it, so there must be something like a trigger that cause us to be happy and something that prolong it? :)

Yeah you are correct! The triggering and prolonging agents can be the same or different ones. Love is the most powerful triggering agent, (as per me) for happiness. It truly is thus called the heart of all social relationships. Thanx! ~cheerio~

I think happiness is a state of mental satisfaction. When you are content with what is happening in your life and when you are getting things done the way you want them to be,it brings a sense of joy and relief. This is what I think is the definition of happiness.

Yeah u r right! The content of being happy only comes when your joyful moments is continuous. But yet again happy is a related term, there is no individual meaning for it. It is derived from the combination of words Happy n Sorrow, spinning out the meaning for both the terms. Well thanx for ur precious time! ~cheerio~
