the stuff inside the brackets is the number of posts you have made. I have no idea where you check your rating, but the numbers in the brackets aren't it.

The 144 next to your name, means that you have responded to or started (or a mix of those) 144 different topics. The next time you post a response it should to up. By my reckoning, you are the 100th person I have written to. Not bad for my first 24 hours on the site.

That is the rating for you. When you respond to discussions you will see it go up by one point or if you start one it is when the first person responds to it that you see it go up one point. It can also go down if your discussions are deleted for certain reasons or if ppl end up giving you a (-) rating instead of a (+) rating.
