A northern Mississippi school district decided Wednesday not to host a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.
Instead, the school board met and issued a statement announcing it wouldn't host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, "due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events."
What do you think of this? Do you support the School board? Should be interesting to see how this ends up.

I thought Mississippi was like Iran, they did not have any homosexuals.
I disagree with the school board, the two were not wearing anything inappropriate, even if one of the ladies was wearing a tuxedo. The school board by canceling the prom places all the blame on the two ladies. The school board can come of by saying, "It was their fault not ours".

Oh for goodness sake... what an immature response... It sounds like a kid in the playground who's been challenged on the rules so takes his ball home and wont play. By cancelling the prom, they have affected all students and, no doubt, initiated some resentment against the girl concerned. Its not her fault that the school board seems to be made up of intolerant narrow-minded bigots. I hope the students tell the board where to stick their prom and organise their own alternative. I thought schools were supposed to promote tolerance, not fuel prejudice?

They thought by punishing everybody that they would dislike the lesbian couple & banish them from the inner circle of the school. This is one of the more IGNORANT things I have ever heard. As it turns out, somebody decided to hold a PRIVATE dance & invite EVERYBODY including the lesbian couple. So now NOBODY is being punished & the school system has emerged with egg on their face!!! Their ignorant act only served to prove that they ARE ignorant!!! I hope I live long enough to see the gay community ACCEPTED into the general population!!!

What stupidity on the part of the school board. How ignorant people are but I shouldn't be surprised since this is Mississippi. Instead of just letting the Prom go on they make it bigger then what it really is. What is the big deal if a girl wants to show up at the prom with her girlfriend and she is wearing a tux. Does the school board think she is the only one in Mississippi that is gay, really?? By the school board doing this they have alienated many of the kids who are now going to blame the girl which will now cause resentment and problems. I'm so angry that the world consist of so many ignorant people when it comes to gay people. My only wish is that the people on the school board end up producing a gay person in their family or finding out they have family members who are gay and they were not aware of it. [em]rofl
