It seems that as many as 6 state are considering holding tax payer refunds. The states will delay for up to 5 months sending out the refund checks. They will be using YOUR money for a bit longer, INTEREST free. I have a suggestion why not treat the state like a small business. You pay your bills first and then you pay your employees and if there is any money left over the boss gets paid. Let the Bosses, State elected Officials, go with out their pay until there is money in the bank. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-03-11-tax-refunds_N.htm?csp=34

I like your suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't think the states in trouble would listen, unless you're registered to vote in that state. Not sure where New Mexico stands, since I owe them this year.

I agree 100%. What states are doing this? Colorado issued my refund very quickly. Thank Goodness.

The report said at least 5 states are considering this option. They did not list the states. I would guess that those with big financial problems.

I heard this on the news tonight, and I was angry. While I do not live in any of these states, they take your money, in advance, and you are promised a return at the end of the year. I am not sure what these people can do, but I would recommend they all band together, and get a lawyer to help them. I think they should all change their W-2 to the highest level, so the least amount of money is taken out too. There simply has to be something that can be done. This is government at their absolute worst.

Using a lawyer would take longer. Show you displeasure through TEA Parties and at the ballot box in November. In the primaries vote for the one that you like the most. In November vote for the least offencive one. A third party only helps the incumbent and the people lose.
