Well here in Minnesota we have had an early thaw and warming trend this month. 40's each day for most the month and lots of rain. This photo shows an area about 6 foot by 12 foot that is going to be a new bed for yet more veggies in my garden this year. This will more than likely be a bed of acron squash. At least thats my plan at this time. I lay tarps down to kill off the grass making ground preparation easier to dig.turn. Is your garden beds started? Seeds started yet indoors? What's your growing items this year? As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I haven't done anything yet. It's raining cats and dogs here. We had a few beautiful, warm and sunny days then it cooled down and we got hit with the rain. The ground never did dry up. I'm thinking of renting a rototiller since I'm going to be expanding my little 8x10 plot and I'm not able to dig a lot. I've not planted anything yet although I intend to start some beans and peas this coming week.

It's been gloomy, cloudy, and rainy here as well. But warm enough to get poutside during breaks in the rain to start some things for this years crops. I have a lot of homemade mulch to lay on top of the soil to absorb a lot of moisture so my beds won't be too wet when I start to till/turn it in a couple weeks. I may go rake off the mulch from my flower beds and apple trees later as it is sunny and getting to 52 today. I am going to borrow my neighbors tiller to do mine this year. My whole area of strawberries, rasberries, and all vegguies including corn will cover a total area of about 200 square feet or so. Im guessing there. LOL! I am planning on seeding some snap peas, and sweet corn into flower boxes today or this week sometime as well. This year I am planting the white and yellow kernel sweet corn. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It's too wet right now to do anything in the garden, but last Tuesday it was nice and sunny, warm even, and I did a bit of preliminary cleamup in the front yard. I has tulips just barely peeping up! And I did put two tomato seeds in little pots in the back window. I don't really have anywhere to start seeds indoors. These seed pots are sitting on the soil of some potted geraniums, as it is.

I look at it this way, if it's not under water it's not too wet. I am getting things going early hoping the warmth is here to stay. But.....they are predicting snow for the first day of spring none the less. HAHAHAHA! I've a lot that's already sprung up in my seed containers. Discussions on those to follow this week starting tomorrow I think. My flowers are treying to start. The lily beds are still under a few inches of mulch so they won't show but I'm sure popping up into the mulch. My day lilies are up and turning green though. Nonthing else as most is under mulch still. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

There you go again making me feel guilty. I have an old bed I have not used in awhile, we need to go tarp it or something. I definitely want more veggies this year. We had reasonably good luck with Tomatoes last year, even though I was so busy I neglected them. not quite so good with peppers. I want Butternut squash, as that is what I make soup from, and my cats love the soup as well. I will be happy for most anything I grow, I want cucumbers, and I should do planter boxes of leaf lettuce, I think, as well as radishes. I have a Home Depot gift card that I want to use on gardening stuff. I earned it through MyPoints. Good luck on your garden. We can even go to the "transfer station" recycling center and get mulch made from yard waste to put on things and till in.

Hi GB, As you know we rent our house so no we don't have stuff ready in regards to gardening. We are actually thinking of moving this year to Alberta (we are in Saskatchewan right now) we just need to get all of the money together to do it first and that is getting a lot easier said then done! Anyhoo, it sounds like you have a got a plan in motion! Good luck, and I hope this is your best veggie year yet!

hi Grandpa Bob wish I could garden but stuck in this tiresome retirement center I can do so little. But love to hear about'your gardening plans. I do love acorn squash baked til they are really soft and have some brown sugar and a little butter on them. Thats really what I called good food, great eating too. I could probably grow a couple of African Violets in my room. thats a great idea too.

I worked in a nursing home one time that had an enclosed garden and patio area. The residents and staff grew flowers and veggies. One of my favorite ladies loved to go sit out and listen to the birds and look around for an hour after supper most evenings. Sometimes people would "forget her". She was in a wheel chair and had macular degeneration really bad, so she needed to not be forgot.

I would be so lost if I lost my gardening fun. I've seen homes around here as well with areas set aside for the seniors to garden etc. It's a great stress reliever and exercise for me as well as for anyone I feel. I'll have discussions showing the progress of my seeds this following week. Acorn Squash finally all sprouted today. Also the birds here today are chirping away. 50 right now at 1 p.m. in Minneasota. Unreal for mid-March. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

My aunt told me years ago i had a brown thumb instead of a green one. i'm afraid she was right. Am not good at raising anything. I just have to depend on the farmer's market for fresh produce & i can't wait till it's time for it to start. good luck w/your garden.

I wish I could grow something in our own garden. But we live in apartment, so no garden space yet. I really like gardening, and looking forward to get our own home and our own garden. Good Luck with your gardening!! After harvesting send some veggies this way LOL....

Very cool discussion to start this time of the year. Here where i live weve had much rain too and worry that its been to much rain and will flood again. Last year i tried container gardening and failed terrible! Think i got one tomatoe last year and it was so disappointing that i dont know if i will try again this year. I bought special soil for veggies last year and made sure they had the sun and water they needed and still nothing. LOL i think i must have a purple thumb or some color other than green! I think a garden would help my family alot since there is 9 of us and groceries are so expensive but i just cant seem to make it work. Good luck with your garden this year.

The garden plot is plowed (it is probably 40 X 75) and ready to be planted but it is just too wet to get in there right now. Also the nights are a bit too cold to put anything out yet; but it won't be but a couple more weeks and we will start planting. Cold weather crops go in usually about the 31st of March. We will plant kale, cabbage, and brussel sprouts to start with. Then about the end of April we will put in the tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, green beans, peppers and melons. My neighbor has started some of the seeds for us and the rest I will go to the nursery and buy in plants. Never have any luck starting my own seeds. They always get to "leggy" before I get them in the ground.
