Breaking bad habits

Most of have (or have had) a bad habit at one time or another. Mine was biting my nails ~ and I did it for many, many years. The reason I was able to stop was because I visited the doctor and he thoroughly embarrassed me over the condition of my nails -- telling me how it was horrible that someone my age (I was in late high school at the time) was STILL biting her nails. I was mortified by the criticism and was finally able to kick what had always been a nervous habit for me. What habit(s) have you broken and how did you manage to do it?

I stopped biting my nails when I was 11 years old. Someone told me to stop and I did; it was that simple. Now they are often quite long and in my way when I am trying to type, lol!

I did the same thing LOL I went from having them bitten down as short as they could be to having long nails that make it difficult to accomplish some things if I don't cut them. Go figure! But good for you that you were able to break the habit so easily.. I'm sure a lot of people wish their habits could be changed just by being told!

Yes like typing! ROFL I had to watch when my girls were young too because I would easily scratch them during routine care like bathing, changing, etc., if I didn't cut them and they got in the way for some activities like bowling (hee hee) and other sports or playing guitar. Yet I still won't keep them short! It's like I worked so hard to give up the nail biting habit that I just have to let them grow.

I stopped smoking, every time I wanted a smoke I ddrank a glass of water instead, my fellow workers who were watching this thought I would drown before I finally quit.

OMG! How fantastic for you that you quit smoking ~ and what a great sense of humor about it too LOL As one who has practically drowned while trying to drink more water for weight loss, I can definitely empathize!!

hell0! I think the worst of my habits that I manage to break was the farting on public places KIDDING OF COURSE!!!\ The worst habit that I have really broken( no joke here) is my stooping walk, but that was years ago, maybe 10 years ago. because I have walked with the face down and stooping, which was really not that comfortable and also I felt not that well!

I think a lot of people would appreciate you breaking that first habit, phoenix8606 LMAO! Very funny! Good for you on working on your posture, too... I think it really helps your overall health to carry yourself well when you walk. Both my daughter and her father/my ex have dislocating knee caps (patellas) and they walk in a similar fashion... sort of a sway, from side to side, I guess - it's hard to describe - but my daughter tells me a lot that she gets foot and leg pain and she's only 19. She has to be very conscious of her walk to feel better.
