Do you ever feel like someone is moving the goalposts?

Say you plan to retire at 55 and save up enough money to do so - and the government then raises the minimum retirement age to 60. Or you can't join the police force because you don't meet the minimum height requirement then they remove that but, by then, you are too old. They change the legal drinking age from 18 to 21 a week before your 18th birthday. You spend two years getting qualifications for a job or university place - then they change the requirements. You earn "too much" for a discounts or any assistance - but if you earned slightly less you'd qualify for everything and be much better off. Do you know where the goalposts are? Do they keep moving?

I was on the floor today and I heard some mechanics talking about the retirement age possibly being moved from 65 to 70. I am in no way close to 65 yet, but I felt this would be a prime example of what you're talking about. I am already that far from the finish line, and now I learn they'd probably move it. Just because there is no money on pension plans.

Oh, ya. Always something. I had the same thing with the retirement. I was lucky enough to retire early and so it worked out okay for me but it was begining to be a worry. The thing that usually gets me is that the few times I have needed to ask for somekind of help I am just afew dollars income over the cutoff amount.

Seems like sometimes u can't win for losing, doesn't it. We just have to learn to roll w/the flow.
