Is it worth fighting for

I have bee thinking about and also encouraged by many others that I should try an apply for ssi/diability. I have scolosis in my back had it all my life it's so bad that it cause a lot of problems with my legs sometimes i can hardly walk. since my kids are getting older I wanted to try and go out work but every where I go people come right out and ask me what is wrong with me it's that noticable. They said there was surgey that could be done but that the outcome would more than likely not be that good that I could end up being paralayed. I dont really want to go through because although some days it's painful and I have trouble I can still walk for the most part. I just dont know what to do I am little disappointed because I really wanted to work even part time but every where I go I get told no and my doctors have pretty much said no. I know from experience fighting for ssi can sometimes be a very long and difficult procress I went through it with my son. Im just really confused and discouraged.
