Am I being just a little TOO polite??

When I hear my computer tell me "Virus database has been updated", I automatically say "Thank you"... even if i'm not in the room. Does everyone else do this or should I be concerned that our relationship may have gone a step further than necessary??

You say, "thank you," to your computer? That's like the time this drunk black guy ripped a silk purse off my body and ran away with a nickel, a powder compact and a green lipstick(but the powder was $16 and I Luved it:everything including the purse had been bought that day)and I shouted after him, "Sir, excuse me SIr! Please come back with my purse."

My computer does not speak aloud or I would, I assure you, answer it back politely. I do talk to the self check cash registers at the stores, but they often annoy me. I get a little testy with them.

Even if you're not in the room Wizzy? Wow, your supersonic hearing powers are exemplary!
I don't do this myself, but it's only because I'm a believer in the "Cruel to be kind" principle when it comes to anti-virus applications. In my opinion, the less gratitude I show, the harder my anti-virus program will work to try and secure my love and acknowledgment. It's a balancing act and there are occasions when the program screams from the corner of my PC whilst rocking back and forth in the foetal position, but at the end of the day, we tend to reach a happy medium that works for both of us. I commend you for having more love in your heart than me on this front. You're an inspiration to us all!

I think my gratitude and love comes from a deep-seated lack of low-esteem whereby I dont feel that i deserve to have my virus database updated, let alone be informed of the event in such a polite manner. Why thank you for doing me the honour of speaking to me computer...I am not worthy!!

I don't think there's something wrong with being that way, I usually find myself saying 'sorry' when I accidentally hit someTHING. Anyhow, I think that's a good habit - saying 'thank you', and I think you only need to worry if you're cursing and stuff instead of being polite.
But, there will always be moments when you yourself would feel silly for doing so, I get that. It's like how some people would call everyone 'sweetheart', it's not because they love that person, it's just because they've come accustomed to it - which is actually dangerous if you're not really old because people would tend to have misconceptions. But still, no harm done with saying 'thank you'.

Yes, there aren't many things that I dont talk to
(I confess that its not always as polite as it could be...
)
I think most people have some sort of 'blanket' term to address people when they dont know their names. It tends to vary from region to region and, I am more comfortable being called some things than others. I really dont like being called "hun".

Hello laydee.
I think I have this habit too! I also keep saying sorry. Just last night, going down the stairs I stepped on one of the stuffed toys that my son left on the stair landing. Of course I didn't turn on the light, and I was already half asleep, so I ended up apologizing to a toy.

Does your computer shout the info?
Or do you have super hearing?
How can you tell it's talking to you if you're in another room?

Heheheh or maybe your both bonkers.. (joking). Seriously though, I can't say I have ever done that but I will think about you now when my mom does it again.

You should be very proud to have such a well-mannered mother
I talk to many household appliances and other inanimate objects but, I am usually less polite.... anyways, where's the fun in getting older if you can't be a little eccentric
(that's eccentric... not bonkers
