It's been awhile since I discussed my dad here. Mainly because there isn't a lot of change in his health etc. He still sits all day doing puzzles. His memory seems to be getting slightly worse as well. Not alzheimers, just a tad of dementia/forgetfullness. He eats the goes back to eat again in an hour or so time. His muscles seem to be getting worse from doing nothing as he has slowed down tremendously in his walking. He is due for a heart check up soon as well. I love my dad. How's your parents health doing?
As always.....

hi Grandpa Bo I am 83 and diabetic and I also sit too much mylotting here but I do go downstairs to meals. I so far have so signs of any mental p roblems but then I do things to keep my brain working all the time, writing in my journal, mylotting, writing short stories, doing all sorts of puzzles, and cryptoquotes and readin all the time when noit mylotting. My problem is coping with my weight and keeping my blood sugar in control all the the time but my A1C is normal, thats a blood test done every three months to show how much or little sugar shows mydup in you blood. My doctor says my heart and kidneys are fine so my legs swelling seems to be due to sitting here too long at a time. So I am on dierutics lasix for ten days at a time.

I also try and keep my brain working each and every day. I love doing crossword puzzles. Dads prefrence is word search puzzles. Since I quit working and taking care of dad my weight has gone up a lot as well. I am now finally under 200. I do walk a lot with Buster and my wife so I get some exercise. Plus I try and go for a bike ride ever so often when it's nice out. I want to get down to 175 again but......

You really did not look too heavy when I met you. And you work like a trojan all of the time. I think that will help you stay healthy.

My dad says that he and his wife do not have ten years left between the two of them. He is seventy nine, and she is eighty eight. He still drives, but the last time it snowed, he did decide that he would skip church because he has had some ice and snow related accidents in the past. I was glad to hear that. He was diagnosed as a diabetic within the last few years, and does his best to watch what he eats. His wife, is pretty fragile looking but is not really on any meds or anything.

My dad looked like he was at deaths bed when he moved in. I swear he looked like he would last a month tops. But I ran him to so many Drs that he got better especially after a few different surgeries he HAD to have and never wanted to have done. Guess I am more stubborn/hardheaded than he is.

I have a relative who is in the early stages of dementia, but is much younger than your dad. We all keep trying to get this person to be more active. To get outside and walk, to do crossword puzzles, to play the piano (they can play the piano well). All they do is sleep, eat, and watch TV. We are at a loss as to what to do.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope he is still enjoying life.
My parents are well but my stepmother had to take my dad to ER twice and he was admitting both times--very painful bowel obstruction. We're sure it's because he can't get around as he used to as he needs a knee replacement. They've been reluctant to do it because of his heart but he almost has them talked into it. He is 89 and has always been active. I'm hoping they can successfully do this and then he can enjoy the rest of his life instead of sitting around wasting away.

My dad's doing pretty well. My step-mom makes him eat right and exercise!

Unfortunately sometimes ill health comes with age. Exercise is important even in old age to keep the muscle tone and circulation, maybe discussions with his doctor are in order if your dad is agreeable. Maybe some weights or even a treadmill for a few minutes a day. Unfortunately you can lead a horse to water, but you may not get him to exercise, if they are unwilling.
Keep looking after him as much as you can, he will not be here forever so appreciate him while he is still here. Both my parents have passed away and I miss them both even though my father was somewhat of a curmudgeon.

Mom hasn't lost much ground in the last year, but she's so far down that her good days are out numbered by her bad ones.
Some days she's alert, even talking, other days its all I can do to keep her awake enough to eat. Lots of times she's so busy looking around that I can't keep her focused on the food, even chocolate CAKE!

i think mom's health is relatively stable right now.
she has a certain amount of forgetfulness, but nothing alarming.
she needs to stop eating so much junk though..it's an everyday battle with her.

Hey Grandpa Bob~ Sorry to hear that your Dad isn't doing as
well as you'd like him to be. He does need to be "pushed" a
bit more to get more exercise even if he doesn't like it!
Maybe when the weather gets warmer you can get him to go outside
on the porch a bit more. At least he does work his mind a bit
by doing the puzzles. I think that you should speak to his
doctor and see what he thinks would be the best things to get
him a bit more motivated. You're doing a great job, but your
Dad has to want to help with his own well being too!

Hello webeishere,
My mom is still in healthy condition, she is still young at 55 years old. She is still working as a business development officer, or simply sales agent, but she is really good with this one. She's been in the business for about 25 years already, and still she is able to close big accounts. though she is healthy looking, she already have an enlargement of the heart due to goiter, but I do hope that it is okay now since she already consulted a doctor, and is now vegetarian, because she also consulted a doctor, that just give natural prescriptions.
