Giga is more larger then Mega, Giga is like the meaning of humongous (i think) as mega is like large in size. Now you even got Tetrabytes more bigger then Giga.

A gigabyte is the larger of the two and is 1024 megabytes (based on 2 to the power of 10), although hard disk manufacturers tend to count it as 1000 megabytes instead. The titles start at a byte, which is a very small unit, and work the way up to kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte and then terabyte which is currently used for extremely large units. As time passes and both programs and hard drives become bigger the next unit will be petabyte, although at present the term petabyte has little use. I cannot remember what would come after petabyte, but we are certain to exceed that in due course. I can remember programs being in kilobytes and hard drives being measured in megabytes, whereas today they would be of no value at all.

Usually 1 GB=1024 MB but 1000 MB for HDD manufacturer.
