Do you keep them til they are used up or yucky? Or do you toss them after a certain amount of years? Or do you test them & toss them if a test seed doesn't germinate? What's your method? I usually keep mine til the end of time. My Aunt gave me some beans that were atleast 10 yrs old and to my surprise they sprouted and even produced a handful of pods!

I keep mine until i need them. To my surprise, i planted parsnips that were many years old and they grew well. So i just try to keep them dry and cool and use them when needed.

If you store them properly, seeds will last indefinitely. I remember my Grandma planting seeds that she got from her sister years and years before and they came up just fine because she kept them in a cool, dry place in the cellar.

Well the seeds i buy i usually keep maybe a month and then finally plant them. I only buy seeds i know im going to plant. I like buying the seeds because they are cheaper then buying the plants already growing. Buying the seeds is better than buying the plants because the plants will have to be planted that day when you get them. The seeds don't have to be done right away but you acn tike your time on planting them since there in a package but i don't wait a long time to plant because i do want them to start growing and then i can use the vegetables or fruit im growing.

Well, last year was the first time that I planted any seeds at all because it was our first year in our own home. The seeds that we didn't use last year, I gave to the kids to plant in the yard the first time that we had a snap of warm weather because my son kept asking me to let him plant seeds. He, of course, planted them in the middle of the grass, so I can't tell you if they actually did anything or not, but I suspect that they did. So, my lesson learned is that even if I don't ue them right away, I should not count them out.

Having worked for a seed company for many years, I factor in many things as to how long I will keep seeds and use them. If the germination is 95% or better on the original package and the seeds have been store in a cool dry place, they should be good and produce for at least 3 years after the package year. I have been know to put out seeds older than this but only for flowers because I don't really care if they come up or not.
