We just got a hand me down Garmin navigator and in the set up you can change not only the language but the accent of the navigator. We have ours on English but there where many accents to chose from. Do you use a different accent then your own? If so why? Is it me or is this weird?

Hi Opinionatedlady, how are you doing? :) I try to use different accent. I dont really know whether I am really correct with both the way I pronounce the word, as well as the modulation. But still I try, because I doubt if people would understand the language in my accent. :) There has to be some standard, and it should be followed across the board. We have several languages out here, and each one has its own characteristics. For examples we Telugu people tend to use the letter "u" towards the end of the sentence. Bengalis tend to make most of the words sound as if there was an "O" somewhere. :) So if each one follows a different accent, we wouldnt really be able to understand each other. Since English is not our language, we can at least try not to give it our colors. :) We end up following the accent on English television programs, most of which come from Hollywood. :) I doubt if we succeed with every word. But nevertheless, we try. :)

In the states there are many accents by region and I have found that people where we live now look at me as though I am from outer space when I talk. I am from New Jersey and I do sound a little bit like the Sopranos..lol and I think that most people don't believe people really talk like that!

In my country alone philippines got several language and used different accent. Like the Tagalong accent..but tagalog is our symbolic philippine language the bisaya their accent is very hard, also the panggalatok of pangasinan..the ilokano in ilocos, the broken spanish which is called chavacano who talk like spanish but here, you could really learned that having different accent from each other will tell you what is the true language they used to be. but somehow i think it is just a matter of practicing yourself.

I don't have a navigator at this time but I think that's a cool option! Maybe it's for folks that English is their second language? Not sure why that's in there and doubt I'd use it.
