Does anyone play Zoo Tycoon 1 or 2?

I was just wondering.. I love the first edition of zoo tycoon!
There are 2 expension sets which I do not own (yet), and there is a second edition out now which features even more incl. an 3D view of the game.
The thing I'm affraid of though, is that the animals will look less nice when they are 3D; they will be more edgie (blocks/pixels) instead of the natural curves that are shown very beautifully in the first edition.
How do you feel about the game? Have you played both and which one do you prefer?
Would you recommend someone who likes the first game to purchase the second? I'm still pondering about buying zoo tycoon 2, but first I would like to get marina mania and dinosaur digs for the first version :)

I have and play both version.
I have the Complete Collection of Zoo Tycoon 1.
I have the Zookeeper Collection of Zoo Tycoon 2 that includes ES (Endangered Species) and AA (African Adventures).
I would love to add more to my ZT2 game but since my computer is older and the only video support I have is onboard I need to get a vid card before I add more to ZT2!
I would say that if you really like the first one its worth trying the second out. BUT .. since it is 3D it can cause issues in some people (headaches, and such). Also since its much more graphics intense it takes a lot more for your computer to run it. It is really cool to be able to walk around like a guest or a zookeeper though. You can even feed/groom/clean up yourself if you want to. There are vids on youtube from it that people have posted up if you want to look and see a little bit what its like.

Thank you so much for this very discriptive response, I will have to check out youtube to see how I react to it. 3D does cause me dizzy spells or head aches most of the time, unfortunatly. It would be fun to check it out though, if it goes well I might be able to play the game after all :)

It does cause me some headaches too if I play for very long but its such a cool game!
I have heard also that its better if you have a newer monitor (not a CRT).
I posted a discussion about the forums for ZT1 & ZT2 a bit ago if you would like to check it out. The folks on the forums can help you out too.

I have never played the first edition, but we do have Zoo Tycoon 2. Ours has the endangered species pack as well as the dino digs and marine mania expansions. It can be a lot of fun, but also very addicting. I havn't plaed ours in a while, but I'm pretty sure that it's not the 3D version, so I can't help you there. I really like the expansion packs though, but I havn't had much luck with the dinosaurs.

Dino digs and marine mania are for Zoo Tycoon 1 which is not in 3D, I think it's the more fun version of the two. Unfortunatly those expensions are hard to get nowadays at least in holland it does)
