Last night while I was searching the channels I came across the Disney channel and saw mickey mouse. I remembered back when I was a kid I used to watch mickey during the weekends. Now that I am all grown up, I asked myself why in the world would they want kids to love mouses. In real life mouses and rats are pest and have caused a lot of death in our society. Why didn't they decide to use a rabbit like Looney Toons? Watching the cartoon character Mickey was fun when I was a kid but seeing a mouse or a big rat in my house is just disgusting. Our immediate reaction will be to trap the rat and kill it. So why do you think Disney made Mickey Mouse a lovable happy cartoon which is their main character?

Mickey Mouse was chosen because it was the first cartoon character that Walt Disney came up with. Back then it was called 'Steamboat Willie' and the mouse character looked a little different than he does today. Mickey is the character that created millions for Walt Disney and a whole empire was created around this character. The Mickey of today looks a lot better than the original artwork/cartoon. While live mice are disgusting, there's something about a cute little animated talking animal, and that is what makes the difference.

Why Disney made a cartoon with a mouse in the first place, I don't know. But he made him his company logo because the Mickey cartoons were his first success.

well i think this is why they had the "mouse" as their logo is because it was mickey mouse that has been so famous and brought disney to fame! well not really so sure as to the whole facts and history but as far as i know it is because o mickey mouse - his looks has been improved though.

Andy, legend has it that when Walt Disney was still starting to pen his ideas, he dwelt in a shabby room where his only constant company was a mouse. Well, this rodent became famous and is now beloved by many Disney fans around the world. I have a friend who collects Mickey Mouse memorabilia. I am not as crazy but Mickey Mouse is classic!

hi Andyvil I always wondered too why a mouse? When I was a kid I also wondered why a mouse as my dad always put mouse traps around to catch the mice til we got a big cat. I mean a large tom cat,not the other kind of Cat. I was not like most kids as I did not like Mickey Mouse or Minnie mouse but I loved the Tom and Jerry cartons. go figure. I was a bit old for my age as I grew up around mostly adults and I always had pet dogs and cats, so mice did not appeal very much to me as cartoon characters.

Mickey Mouse was the second character Walt Disney came up with. The first was Oswald the Rabbit, but Universal, I believe, liked it so much they kept the rights to it. That upset Disney, and he ended up creating Mickey Mouse, originally called Mortimer Mouse. His wife picked out the name Mickey.
