So you will not get confused, most routers available have USB ports on them so you can connect your modem to any of the routers with USB port. Then the router can be connected whether wireless to other computers in your house or also through a USB cable, that is, if you do not have an ethernet port on the computer. Hope this helps. Good luck!

My router doesn't have one and it is N version of wireless router too. I might need to buy a new one to restart the wireless system like you say.

If you already have a router (wireless or wired) and your laptop is already connected to the router, enable the Internet Sharing Connection either via wireless (wlan) or wired (ethernet) connection. If you can administer the router be sure your IP Address is registered or recognize on the router. Set to DHCP for automatic IP addressing. Set the router to "router mode" not on gateway. The gateway IP address must be your laptop. (The Internet Sharing Connection setup is for a Window based computer. The router setup is base on Linksys router. Setups may differ on other router brands and computer operating system).

Actually all the instructions are in the box of the router supposedly (I use a Linksys router). For your sake this is what you have to do: There will be 2 things at least plugged to the router: 1) power supply 2) modem cable. Your problem seems to be the modem cable. In a usual computer, there is this cable you plug from your modem to the back of the CPU. This cable is actually the bridge that gives your computer internet straight from the modem. The idea is to spread the internet so you plug that cable to the router :) What the router does is the internet from your modem is spread out like an extension cord. The only way you can actually get internet access in these 2 computers is this : you need a router and wireless adapters to pick up wifi in each computer.

well depends of the router there are 2 ways todo that: one is getting a cable, usb -- ethernet: in this case you can plug only the cable to the wan port in the router and that is all the other is if the router have a USB port and in that case is a bit more tricky, you should just plug from usb to usb like you do with your laptop but get into the configuration of the router that you might be using to see if it recognize the device... the trick or dilemma usually comes in the recognition of the router because the usb of some routers are only designed for other peripherals like externals HDD or printers in that case you might have some minor problems... the easiest is the usb-ethernet thing :-) as the other guy recommended, try with a linksys... it usually works
