actually, probably not, you are here, that means you are mostly willing to do some work for a postponed reward But, you know these people... They are driving down the road in a 30 yr old junker, with a Peace sign and a "Save the Whales" (and probably many more) bumper stickers on it. I mean, this thing is spewing out exhaust, and the body of the car is probably being held together by those bumper stickers. You look and behind the wheel is some almost white haired guy, probably with a pony tail. Chances are he's driving REAL slow and if his radio/stereo works, its probably play either old rock and roll or heavy metal a la Led Zeppelin. The thing is that he actually probably makes enough for a new car, but he doesn't have it to buy one. If he has a house, its probably inherited from his folks. And why doesn't he have money? Because he's buying drugs. Oh, not the kill you kind of drugs, probably just pot. But he's more than likely doing it because it "relaxes" him, like other people drink beer. Sadly, pot is STILL illegal, so he can't afford do get better than he has. Oh, he probably has a friend that can fix his car, or even help him find another one if it can't be fixed, but it isn't going to be much better. I'm not advocating legalizing pot, tho I personally think it being illegal has made it become a "gateway drug" to many. But if it WERE legal, it could be taxed, and regulated like tobacco and booze. They could say how powerful the drug in it is, rather than taking your chances getting it from dealers, and it would be harder for young children to get their hands on it. Honestly, I don't think pot is that harmful (other than the same harm that smoking tobacco has) and then you can get it with filters - something they don't offer on whatever they are calling them this week. So, while I don't waste my money on cigarettes, booze or drugs (including pot) I do "waste" it rescuing cats, so I don't have the $$ to spend on those things. So, have you seen or do you know any of these "voluntary poor"?

You're in Los Vegas. A tent city down there must be really hot.

There are differences between people that are truly hard up, and those who make a life style choice!

Yes! Me! I drive a Plymouth Neon which needs work on it on a regular basis! I have to do even if it means borrowing money from a friend! I wish I could afford car paymnets so I could buy a better car! Instead I am spening my spare money on Farmville cash, food for my food addiction and paying alot of bills! When two or three bills get paid off in 3 years, maybe then I will be able to afford car payments! Until then I pray my car holds up for a few more years so I can afford car payments! otherwise I will have to bug my dad for money to get a cheap used car again! I hate thinking about that! I am voluntary poor!
