Bisphenol A (BPA) in thermal paper

So about a week ago I had a customer come to my register and tell me that thermal paper, like the receipt I was about to hand her, had been revealed as containing BPA --the oh so lovely estrogen-mimicking chemical we've been hearing about in baby bottles, the lining of food cans, leaching out of certain plastics, etc. This got me rather concerned, as I handle at least a full roll's worth of this paper at work each day! I did a bit of reading up and it seems it's not in all thermal receipt paper, and it's also not a new revelation at all. This article from last October explains quite a bit: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/48084/title/Concerned_about_BPA_Check_your_receipts I'm now very curious to know if the paper I deal with is coated in BPA. I know I'll sure be washing my hands a lot more at work now (at the very least!). Had you all heard anything about this source of BPA?

I haven't heard about this and I hope my work isn't using that kind as I handle it all day long too. I wonder where I could find out the source of our register tape and what it contains. I have a feeling corporate wouldn't be too helpful in this case. They aren't really helpful in any case ;p

Yeeah...I'm at least going to try asking at work who our supplier is (we're a small independent business), and see if I can then find out whether their paper is BPA-free. Good luck!
