A study has been reported on that shows that the good old fashioned beetroot ( well the juice of it) boosts stamina by making muscles more fuel-efficient. It seems that beetroot juice doubles the amount of nitrate in the blood and reduces the rate at which muscles use their main source of energy. Beetroot juice helps muscles work more efficiently and lowers their oxygen uptake. Now myself , I cannot imagine drinking beetroot juice, but it may be worth a try. What do you think?

I enjoy beets. I like to remove half the juice, then add vinegar, let set awhile and eat them. Maybe i should drink the first half. HA Thank you, that information may make me eat more of them.

Wow. I'm not as fit as I want to be but I don't think I would be able to drink beetroot juice just to get fitter. I think I trust the studies because plants do bring a lot of benefits to humans but I don't think I would be able to drink it. Can be mango juice or strawberry juice instead?

thats interesting although it would be nice if it was something that tasted nice.... beetroot chopped up is nice in a stew though as a topping but i think you would need to eat a lot of beetroot to get the benefits

Yes it would be interesting to know what quantity of actual beetroot was beneficial - I love it on salads or hotpots etc
