Though it is superstition but now it has become habit..........Touching wood after boasting of ones good fortune, or exemption from bad luck, was thought necessary to keep the streak of good luck intact. Still today, people are likely to touch wood immediately after answering a question in the negative, such as "That in my family i haven't seen dying someone" or"I have never done anything seriously wrong"

from where i come from, we do knock on wood or anything made from wood to cast off the possible bad luck that one uttered. i know this doesn't change the course of life's probable events however, it wont harm to be a little superstitious especially if this becomes one's comfort zone.

Hi, abhishek. I usually will see others knock on wood when me and this person would say the same thing at the same time. That is when the wood will get knocked upon. Or if we agree to the same thing.

Hi Abhishek! Yes, here too in my country, Philippines, we knock on wood or touch wood when we won't to get rid of bad luck or wants something good to happen in the future. I think it became a habit. And we also were thought by the elders, that when we dreamed of someone losing your tooth or teeth. Especially if you were losing your own teeth while dreaming. We should bite wood or a living plant. So that the bad luck of someone dying will transcend to the plant. An old superstitious myth, but we don't see any harm in doing so. Just to be sure that no one close to you, especially a member of the family meets a bad fate. (^^,)
