Quite a few of you must have followed the recent municipal elections in West Bengal. Skirmishes, even violent one, between followers of TMC and CPM, were also covered by Indian media. Ultimately, TMC wrested powers from CPM in these elections.
However, what was surprising that our politicians had no time to properly instruct the bureaucracy when a massive railway accident, reportedly caused by naxalites, took place and score of people died. A formal visit to accident site by them was definitely underatken which was mainly for political gains.
However, what was pathetic that doctors and staff of hospitals were not present to carry on task of post-mortem and bodies continued to rot for days. Relatives of such victims were seen running around but nobody was there to help them when heat was at its peak. No politician or bureaucrat cared for that and they were not concerned at all if doctors and hospital staff were on election-duty. Election duties were obviously so important that dead bodies were allowed to rot under open sun for days.
Have we lost all sentiments and emotions to such a degree that we do not care for such pathetic accidents and alow the relatives of victims to run around without any solace or help?
Where we hve come to? Our politicians announce cash-relief to the families of victims immediately after accident but fail to see and ensure that such relatives, coming from far-flung areas, get timely help to complete formalities.
We the Indians have lost our feelings for others and we simply care for our survival only.
A sad affair. At least give respect to the bodies of departed soul which they deserve.
It is our India. Jai Ho!
